The Staten Island Chinese School was founded in 1971. With 50 years of experience as a non-profit educational organization, it has proven to be a significant resource in the study of the Chinese language for students in Staten Island.

Students may study Chinese in either Mandarin or Cantonese. Our curriculum bases on the textbook with traditional characters version, published from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.  Extra teaching materials are imported from Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong as well. In addition to these, we edited our own textbooks to strengthen language skills and interests for the young children in the beginning classes.

In terms of Chinese writing, our school uses the traditional writing system as an official writing format, as we introduce the Simplified Writing System to our students in some Mandarin classes. If there is a permission from the class teacher, students are also allowed to use the Simplified Writing Method to take their examinations.

In our Mandarin classes, our teachers teach the language in Hanyu Pinyin, the phonetic symbols used in mainland China. It will be easier for students to prepare for SAT II and AP (Advance Placement) examinations in Chinese. In addition, we also provide additional phonetic notes for the textbook "Hua-Yu" for students to compare the differences between the Hanyu Pinyin System from mainland China and the Zhuyin Symbol system from Taiwan.

Classes are from 9:30am to 12:00 noon every Saturday.  An optional hour of after school activity will be given after class from 12pm to 1pm. Students may choose from a variety of activities including Folk Dance, Chinese Abacus, Sketching, Mandarin Conversation and Arts & Crafts. Some events are being held in school throughout the year are Chinese New Year Celebration and Speech Contest. In addition, we offer classes and activities for parents while their children are at school, such as Adult Mandarin (conversational).

The Staten Island Chinese School is using the physical facilities of Staten Island Technical High School, located at 485 Clawson Street, Staten Island, NY 10306.

史德頓島中文學校是一所非牟利機構，創辦於一九七一年，已經擁有50年教授中國語文經驗，自開辦以來，成績卓著，提供史德頓島學童學習中國語文機會。

本校內分別設有國語班及粵語班，教材以正體字版為教學藍本，另外分別從中國大陸、台灣及香港購入補充教材，讓學生吸取各方面的知識。為讓初級班學童適應中文學習環境，本校更自編課本，讓他們培養學習興趣和打好學習基礎。

本校多年來一直教授並使用中國傳統繁體字，但在一些國語班班級，老師亦會以『學繁認簡』的教學原則介紹簡體字寫法。在老師准許的情況下，某些班級亦允許使用簡體字考試。

拼音方面，國語班將以中國大陸漢語拼音教授，為學生們參加SAT II中文考試和 AP (Advance Placement) 中文考試作出準備。

學校上課時間逢星期六上午九時三十分至十二時，另外中午十二時至一時為課外活動時間。課外活動分別設有舞蹈、素描、心珠算、手工和國語會話等課外活動，讓學生互相交流及了解中華文化。 除了正式中文課程外，本校學年中舉辦農曆新年表演, 演講比賽等活動, 讓學生在活動中學習中文與中華文化，增加興趣。 另外，本校更設有成人國語班，供家長們在島上學習和互相認識。
